The University Museum of Bergen celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2025. As a central part of the anniversary celebration, an exhibition has been created that showcases a selection of the many unique objects and stories from the museum’s rich collections. The exhibition design combines original museum display cases – carefully restored and painted in new colours – with newly built elements and large, backlit graphic panels. Together, they create a vibrant and aesthetically engaging setting for 200 selected objects, images, and texts. Heimerink Wagemakers was responsible for project management, construction of exhibition furnishings and display cases, as well as on-site installation.

The exhibition has been developed in close collaboration with the museum’s staff, many of whom have contributed objects, questions, perspectives, and knowledge that have been collected and preserved on behalf of society over the past 200 years. The result is an exhibition that offers visitors a unique insight into the museum’s history – and shows how the museum, the university, and society continuously shape and influence one another – in the past, present, and future.
