In 'The Father' by August Strindberg, the daughter Bertha is caught in the crossfire between her parents. The mother challenges the father's old-fashioned views on women, while he desperately clings to his male dominance. In this reinterpretation, Bertha is joined on stage by today’s youth – young people who each share their own experiences of fathers and family dynamics.
Torden & Lynild created a spectacular set design where the audience is invited to explore three female spaces at the beginning of the performance: the daughter’s chamber, the mother’s winter room, and the nurse’s kitchen. Later, the audience is seated in a more traditional arrangement around the father’s space, and finally, the room explodes as the family itself falls apart.
